Slate is a pixel art/bitmap editor available for Linux, Windows and Mac. Using slate, you can edit images directly, use layers and create seamless 2D tilesets for games. Add the option to recolour the grid and I will immediately switch to this tool for my simple projects it has a simple hotkey reconfig and that is the main sell here that part needs to stay intact, This has the makings of a great program !  just keep it slim but add some QOL like grid colouring and resizing the canvas on the fly!  Happy Programming!

I've tried it, and the UI is really clean! Would love to see more features and some quality of life changes :)

Still I don't understand how I should be able to insert a tile into the right side of the program like in the screenshot ._.
